The Back Door is owned and operated by John Dant (below) and Mike Ewing (below right), who purchased the building from Tom and Linda Clemons in 1987. The 5,000-square-foot bar and lounge previously served as a warehousing and storage facility for the nearby A&P Grocery. The patio area was a loading and unloading dock for the store. Our establishment is open seven days a week from 4 p.m. until 4 a.m., and is strictly a "21 and over" bar. ID's are checked.
Our bar staff includes Bar Manager Carrie, Dave, Marianne, Cindy, Chris, Troy and Kat. The kitchen staff includes Chef Chris, Scotty, Brad, Tim and Jessica. We take great pride in the fact that Carrie, Dave, Cindy and Marianne have been with The Back Door for over 20 years.
The owners and employees take great pride in the Back Door's reputation of being one of the friendliest bars in Louisville. Long-time customers, newcomers and out-of-town visitors can relax and mingle in a casual and cordial atmosphere.
Happy Hour runs daily from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m., serving up well drinks for $2.25, domestic beer for $5 a pitcher, or domestic beer for $1.75 a pint and import beer for $3 a pint. Weekly specials on beverages are popular features with our patrons as well.
With two large-screen televisions, including one 100-inch screen, two 52-inch high definition screens, and four smaller screens, the Back Door is a favorite of local fans of the University of Louisville and University of Kentucky. Game day specials, including $5 for pitchers of domestic drafts and chicken wings for 35 cents each, are available during football and basketball games, as well as other special athletic events.
A spacious arcade room includes some of the most popular contemporary games, including Golden Tee Video Golf, Foosball, Bowling, Darts and other favorites, as well as ample seating. Other offerings include counter video games in the main bar area.
The Back Door has a separate pool room with high quality pool tables that are carefully maintained and well lighted. A total of 6 tables are available for individual play, competition or for special parties. We also own the local franchise for league play in the Pool Players of America. Competition is held on Monday evenings, starting at 7:15 p.m.
